Sundance Pollen Trap, 10 Frame Bottom Mount

Pollen contains the male cell needed by flowering plants for fertilization and seed formation. Flower pollen collects on the legs and bodies of worker bees. Pollen comes from many plants, so the contents of a container of bee pollen can vary significantly depending on the region and month it was collected. Bees can collect as much as 65 lbs. of pollen per year, per hive. Honey bees uses pollen as a protein-rich source of food. This trap collects about 2/3 of the pollen loads on bees' legs. It is best to turn off the trap every 3 weeks so the bees more easily store pollen for themselves. It mounts at the bottom of a standard 10 frame wooden hive, above the bottom board. Pollen should be taken from the drawer daily to prevent growth of small hive beetles in the drawer. Freeze your pollen and check it for debris before selling for human consumption.
